Shane Watson and Suresh Raina made batting look easy on a sluggish track as Chennai Super Kings coasted to a six-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals in an Indian Premier League encounter in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Shikhar Dhawan’s painstaking half-century was the only silver lining in Delhi Capitals’ sub-par total of 147 for six which the defending champions overhauled with two balls to spare.

n control of the chase despite Mahendra Singh Dhoni doing what he does usually by taking the match to the final over. When Delhi batted first, run-scoring looked an arduous job with a middle-order collapse dashing hopes of a big total.

When CSK started their chase, it was expected that the slowness will be a factor but it seemed Watson (44 off 26 balls) and Suresh Raina (30 off 16 balls) were batting on a different track. They showed positive intent which was singularly lacking in Dhawan and Co.

They hit eight fours and four sixes between them to add 52 runs in only four overs and there was no recovery from that onslaught. Watson was declared the man of the match for his superb 44 of 26 balls.

Shane Watson has proved there’s still plenty of life left in him after producing a man of the match performance while engaging in verbal exchanges with a pair of IPL stars but it was his heated clashes with Capitals quicks Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada that generated plenty of interest.

Shane Watson Involved in Verbal Fight With Ishant Sharma & Kagiso Rabada:

The first four games of this season’s IPL did not quite see much of an altercations between the players. Well, it finally happened in the fifth game between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings at the Feroz Shah Kotla. And unlike the common scenario, not two but three players were involved in it as Delhi quicks Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada were involved in a heated verbal duel with Super Kings opener Shane Watson.

It all began in the third over of Super Kings’ innings when Ishant bounced out Ambati Rayudu. Watson had then said something while looking at the Delhi players which miffed Ishant.

The India pacer then charged towards the Australian who saw the funny side of it and laughed it away. Before things could get ugly, skipper Shreyas Iyer dragged Ishant away.

But the altercations did not end there.  In the very next over, Shane Watson hit Rabada for a four and a six. Watson had top-edged the last ball for a six, much to Rabada’s frustration.

It was soon followed by another animated chat between the two players. Rabada was seen clapping animatedly while looking towards Watson who too was looking angry. In fact, Iyer and umpire Marais Erasmus had to intervene to bring things under control.

Watson and Rabada almost touched shoulders when Watson was running down the pitch during a Rabada over —and then continued to exchange words that left both of them with a grin on their faces.

The brief confrontations were all forgotten after the game as Watson and Rabada hugged it out on the field.
